Performing Arts

There are many opportunities for children to engage with the performing arts at Keyworth Primary School, across all subjects.  Whether incorporating drama into English lessons as a hook for writing, a way of retelling familiar stories and exploring characters, or through a Wider Curriculum subject, providing the children with an immersive experience and greater insight into a new topic, such as Ancient Greece or The Polar Regions.

Each winter, our children from Nursery to Year 6 put on seasonal concerts for our school community, parents and carers. The children enjoy coming together to learn and perform songs, rehearse lines and work as an ensemble to share their performances with large audiences.

In the Spring term, our UKS2 pupils join children from throughout Southwark to perform in a cross-school percussion festival at the Southbank. The children apply their learning from weekly music lessons to showcase the skills they have developed to a huge audience of family and friends, various school communities and the wider public.

In our final term, Year 6 take to the stage with their end of year production, with performances that are usually musically themed. Our children create the entire production themselves, from costume making, writing programmes, set construction and of course the acting and singing.

In addition to theatrical performances, our classes put on weekly assemblies for parents, carers and the rest of the school community. The children learn and perform short scripts and songs and share the work they have been currently learning. These assemblies are wonderful celebrations of all our children's hard work and an opportunity to share all of the fascinating things they have learnt through performance.
